THE HIGHWAY SERIES During the mid to late 1940s, when Marilyn Monroe was still going by her real name ("Norma Jean") and was not yet an actress, she posed for photographer Andre De Dienes. De Dienes mentioned that he asked Marilyn to pose on the highway because to him it symbolized her future path and rise to stardom. Most Monroe photo books carry at least several of the De Dienes pictures in their early chapters to show what Monroe looked like before she became a mega- star. These photos are not obscure even to the most casual of Monroe fans, so yes, Madonna has viewed these at one time or another. Unfortunately, I have thus far been unable to find any high quality reproductions of this photo shoot and have to offer grainy images. |
